Southern, likely Richmond or Winchester, Virginia area Federal period huntboard or sideboard, walnut with figured cherry veneers. Yellow pine and poplar secondary. Pegged construction. Plain rectangular top over two deep side drawers and two stacked center drawers, each drawer dovetailed and having tiger maple veneer surrounded by figured crossbanding at the edges and the original oval brass pulls embossed with acorns and leaves. Supported on four tall square tapered legs. 42 in H x 57 in W x 20 3/4 in D. Circa 1810.
PROVENANCE: By descent in a family originally from the Richmond, Virginia area.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with little, if any, loss to height. Some old pest damage and minor repairs to top including an older 2″ width replacement strip at back edge. Very old rectangular patch of 2 in. x 1 in. on top left side. Shrinkage splits to drawer bottoms and sides of case. Scattered wear and abrasions including 4″ narrow area of loss to 1 rear leg edge. Veneer chip and area of possible veneer replacement to left side of top center drawer. Old but not original surface.
