Alexander John Drysdale (Louisiana, 1870-1934) oil wash on paper landscape painting of a Louisiana Bayou marsh. Signed "A.J. Drysdale" lower left. Housed and double matted under glass in a contemporary giltwood frame. Sight: 19 1/2" H x 9 3/4" W. Framed: 25 3/4" H x 16" W. Biography: Alexander Drysdale is known for his hazy Louisiana landscapes painted using a distinctive oil wash technique. He studied at the Southern Art Union and at the Arts Students League in New York City before opening a studio in the French Quarter of New Orleans. His work is in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and The Historic New Orleans Collections.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of William and Fletch Coke, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: One area of repaired tear to lower left corner, approximately 1/2" L. Light toning to paper.
