Unusual East Tennessee, Jefferson County, two-piece vernacular Jackson press, yellow pine secondary. The upper section with a simple cornice above two 18 pane glass doors over two rectangular doors each with two beveled panels. The lower section with three graduated dovetailed drawers with wood pulls flanked by turned pilasters and resting on turned feet. Dovetails of drawers match with dovetails at the top of the upper case. 78 in. H x 44 3/4 in. W x 24 in. D. Circa 1835.
PROVENANCE: Provenance: Private Nashville collection; ex- Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander; acquired by Sen. Alexander from Case Auctions, May 2009 (lot 67); descended through the family of Nanny Elvira Sharpe of Jefferson County, TN.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some surface wear and light abrasions, base with some sun fading. The upper doors retain the original glass One small patch to the bottom of the lower right drawer. Back feet slightly loose.
