Two (2) watercolor miniature portraits. 1st item: Round painting depicting a woman in early 19th century dress with upswept brunette hair, holding a baby and standing beside a young boy to her right, with a landscape in the background. Unsigned. Housed under glass in a gold tone frame and set in a square red velvet mat. Portrait: 2 1/2" dia. Mat: 5" square. Probably English, or Continental, early 19th century. 2nd item: Portrait miniature, possibly Virginia, depicting a young girl with short brunette hair and blue eyes, wearing a pink dress. Unsigned. Housed in a gutta percha case with a hexagonal brass mat. Portrait: 2 1/4" H x 1 3/4" W. Case: 3" H x 2 5/8" W x 7/8" D. Early 19th century.
PROVENANCE: By descent in consignor's family, which lived in Virginia in the early 19th century.
CONDITION: Both items in overall very good condition. Mat and case with light wear to velvet. 2nd item: 5/8" surface scratch to lower left of girl's dress.
