Gabriel Viardot (France, 1888-1964) signed 19th century French bronze mounted music etagere or cabinet in the Asian style. Comprised of three open shelves above five vertical lower compartments for storing music. Top and upper sides with carved frieze and central bronze figural dragon and inset bronze relief plaques, carved side panels, and base with carved skirt with inlaid central plaque, all resting on curved and carved French style legs. Signed on the left back leg. 54 1/2" H x 22 1/4" W x 16" D. Late 19th century. Note: this piece was deaccessioned by the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in 2019 and purchased by the late Pia Stratton in our October 5, 2019 auction, lot #27.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with light general use wear.
