Lloyd Branson (American/Tennessee, 1861-1925) oil on board still life painting depicting a tabletop with half an orange or grapefruit, sitting on a plate as a knife leans against it. A spoon and folded newspaper are set on either side, while a bowl containing more citrus fruit stands in the background. The overall background is rendered with a hazy effect characteristic of some of Branson's landscapes (a genre for which he is better known). Signed "Lloyd Branson" lower right and dated 1913. Housed in a gilt and painted Rococo style frame with protruding filet. Sight: 12" H x 24" W. Framed: 23" H x 35" W. Note: This piece was possibly an entry in the National Conservation Exposition held in Knoxville in 1913.
CONDITION: A few scattered small dark stains or accretions; 1/8" flake to paint lower center. Trapped brush hair upper left corner. Frame has been regilt and repainted and has some wear.
