Alois Lecoque (California/Illinois/Czech Republic/Italy/France, 1891-1981) post-impressionistic oil on canvas painting depicting a snowy city street, possibly in Paris, with a few figures walking the street. Signed "Lecoque" lower right. Label en verso of frame for Scramm Galleries, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Housed in a wooden frame with gilt and grey trim and an off-white linen liner. Sight: 23 1/2" H x 29 1/2" W. Framed: 29 1/4" H x 35 1/4" W. Biography: "Alois Lecoque was born at Prague in 1891, took up art at an early age, studied and painted in many parts of Europe, including his native land, Paris, Rome, Naples, the Dalmatian seashore, and the Isle of Capri. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 and took up residence in Chicago. He later moved to California and established a studio at Laguna Beach. Lecoque was the recipient of many prizes. In Paris, at the Julian Art Institute, he studied under Professors Baschett, Emil Bernard, and others. Later he worked with August Renoir. Lecoque also published several novels, some of them translated into both English and French. Exhibitions include London, 1912; Paris, 1925; Biennale di Venezia, 1926-1928; and Prague, 1926."
