Staunton, Virginia stoneware ovoid jar having incised decoration to each side consisting of ovals with cobalt tulips to interior and flanked each side by tulips having bases in the shape of a Federal shield with alternating cobalt decoration. Shields on reverse side do not have the alternating cobalt decoration. Applied crescent lug handles also brushed with cobalt decoration with two incised lines encircling the neck. 12" H. Circa 1830. Condition: Overall excellent condition. Rim slightly mis-shapen during the making.
