Virginia cobalt decorated stoneware jar by Henry Lowndes, Petersburg, Virginia. One side with stylized floral cobalt decoration and the other side signed in cobalt ""H. Lowndes, Manufactor, Petersburg, Va", with additional cobalt applied to the handles. 11 1/2" H. Second quarter of the 19th century. Condition: Overall excellent condition. Residual traces of paint on sides of jar, couple of small void spaces on base, probably from the firing process.
