Adolfo Cipriani (Italy, 1880-1930) carved marble bust depicting a woman, possibly Daphne, with downcase gaze wearing a wreath atop her long, tied-back hair and a toga style dress secured with a thin strap over her left shoulder. Inscribed signature "A. Cipriani" at lower left shoulder. Later shaped, integral, speckled marble base. Overall: 11 3/4" H x 9 3/4" W x 5" D.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with minor surface wear and minute chipping to lower folds of fabric and portions of wreath, largest measuring 1/4" x 1/8". Previous repair to marble with corresponding hairline across depth of base.
