Edgar Tolson (Kentucky, 1904-1984) folk or outsider art carved and painted wood sculpture depicting Uncle Sam standing and attired in a patriotic suit and top hat with his right arm raised and index finger pointing, mounted on a green painted square base. Unsigned. 31 1/4 in. total H (w/ base). Circa 1970s.

PROVENANCE: Collection of Don W. Snyder, Louisville, KY; Collection of Ellsworth “Skip” Taylor, Lexington, KY. 

CONDITION: Overall good condition with some natural wood shrinkage to the top hat and where the top hat rests on Uncle Sam’s head. Right arm with a clean repaired break at the elbow.
