Eighty-eight (88) etchings from Luigi Rossini’s (Italy, 1790-1857) “Le antichita romane; ossia, Raccolta delle piu interessanti vedute di Roma antica” (The Rome of Antiquity, a collection of the most interesting views of ancient Rome), plus letterpress title page. Lot includes at least two duplicates (plates 6 and 76). Unbound. Most sheets approx: 21 1/2 in. H x 29 1/2 in. W; a few have been trimmed. Note: Title page text “Presso il Seudellari via Condotti N. 19 e 20, e” has been covered with lined paper indicating that the present example may be an early printing of the 1829 edition. Additionally, the same address information has been marked through with a pencil line on the CATALOGO side of the title page, and information concerning works VII-IX has been written in pencil under the printed heading “OPERE INCOMINCIATE DALL’AUTORE,” with “terminate” written in pencil after suggesting that these works were only recently finished by the time of the pencil inscription. 1829.
CONDITION: Title page with marked foxing and tears, staining, and losses to edges. Other sheets with minor to marked foxing, some with tears to edges, damp staining, soiling, and losses primarily outside of images; a few extend into the edges of images. All sheets with pinpoint binding holes along upper edges.
