Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) etching on laid paper, “The Crucifixion: Small Plate.” Usticke’s second state (of 4), New Hollstein’s second state (of 3), with the long diagonal scratch below the signature and broken line in Christ’s abdomen. Signed and dated in plate, upper center. With pencil inscriptions en verso. Floated under glass in Dutch-style faux-tortoiseshell and ebonized wood ripple frame with cream silk mat. CONDITION: A very good early impression with part of the faintly etched obelisk over the head of the standing man with hands raised at right distinct. With crisp plate edges and narrow to thread margins. Mounted with archival tape affixed to upper and lower center. With remnants of old tape to upper and lower left corners.
