Attributed to Giuseppe Mazzolini (Italy, 1806-1876) oil on canvas painting titled "Nativity: after the Circle of Pompeo Girolamo Batoni (Italian, 1708-1787), depicting the Holy Family seated around a manger while the Virgin Mother cradles the newborn Christ child, who illuminates the nocturnal scene. The family is depicted seated in the interior of a barn, surrounded by animals, with three angels hovering above. Unsigned. Inscription en verso reads. "Nativity from Pompeo Battoni, original gallery Corsini Bunu (The Galleria Corsini, The Palazzo Corsini, Rome, Italy), Joseph Mazzolini painting." Housed in an ornately carved giltwood frame, Sight: 24" H x 19 1/4" W. Framed: 34" H x 29 1/2" W. 19th Century.
PROVENANCE: Collection of a Nashville Physician.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with expected age to canvas with light craquelure and some inpainting in the upper right corner, and light scattered areas visible under UV light inspection, see UV light photos for reference. Small area of staining on Mary's face. Frame with wear and gilt loss, largest area 2" L, upper right. Painting is loose in frame.
