American or French school 18th Century miniature watercolor bust portrait of a gentleman. The sitter is depicted with powdered hair and blue eyes and wearing a blue coat with floral buttons, a white shirt, and a white ruffled cravat, set against a brown background. Housed in likely the original gilt metal frame. Partial possible red seal en verso. Unsigned. 1 7/8" H x 1 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, TN collection, by descent through the family.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. A couple of areas of pinprick loss to the left side of the blue coat. The frame is missing the back. Examination out of the frame does not reveal the artist.
