Ms. Weekly also notes, “During this seemingly carefree summer between his junior and senior years at the Cleveland School of Art, Burchfield spent days wandering in fields, valleys, and woods close to his home in Salem, Ohio. He reveled in the simple pleasures of the sights and sounds around him, writing about his observations in his journals… Burchfield considered the formative year of 1915 to be when his artistic career began.” Her full report is available on request. 2nd item: Alfred Pounders (American, 1931-2019) pen and ink on paper drawing depicting four figures lying on a beach as another figure, possibly an artist at an easel, looks on from a dune above.
