William Weege (American, b. 1935) color woodblock print on paper, head and shoulder view of a nun surrounded by a yellow halo effect, a book shelf in the background. Numbered "No. 2" in pencil lower center under image, signed "Wegee" in pencil lower right under image. Includes typed biography of artist. Edges secured to mat with old masking tape en verso. Sight – 14 1/2" H x 10" W. Mat – 20 1/4" H x 16 1/8" W. Biography: Weege studied at the University of Wisconsin and is known for his printmaking. His work was exhibited at the Worlds Fair in Japan and the 7th International Biennial Exhibition in 1970, the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in 1970 and at the Whitney Museum in 1971. Provenance: The Estate of Mrs. Frank Wood, Evansville, Indiana and Dickson, Tennessee, purchased from the estate of artist Nellie McGee in 1983. CONDITION: Overall good condition with toning. Areas of print have melted and adhered to the glass top and middle right. Tears, largest 3 1/4".
