Two (2) Francisco de Goya Lucientes (Spanish, 1746-1828) etching, aquatint, and drypoint prints on ivory laid paper from the series Los Proverbios, 1816-1824. Two of four additional plates (Harris 266-9) from the series not published until 1877. Published in L''Art, Paris, 1877. With printed title and publication information in lower margin. 1st item: Lluivia de Toros (Raining Bulls). Ref.: Delteil 223; Harris 269. 2nd item: Una Reina del Circo (The Queen of the Circus), sometimes known as Bailando en una Cuerda Floja (Dancing on a Tightrope). Ref.: Delteil 221; Harris 267. Both housed under glass in gilt wood frames with cream mats. Sheets: 11 5/8" H x 16 7/8" W. Frames: 15 13/16" H x 20 3/8" W.
PROVENANCE: Purchased from the Galleria M. Arte in Padova, Italy, in 2001. A copy of the gallery''s original description is available to the winning bidder.
CONDITION: Very good, well-inked impressions with strong contrasts. Both prints with mat burn and affixed to backing at corners.
