Scottish School, mid-19th century circular watercolor and charcoal on paper half-length portrait of two children. The younger child wears a bright blue tartan sash. Plain background. Framed under glass in a circular giltwood frame with husk and bead moldings, with stamp en verso for Alexander Murray, Carver, Gilder and Printseller, Perth. Unsigned. Sight: 25 1/2 in. diameter. Frame: 34 in diameter.
PROVENANCE: Living Estate of Sally Johnson Harlan.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Toning to paper and scattered foxing, most notably to younger boy’s forehead and forearm. Frame has two shrinkage cracks, some losses to bead molding, wear and abrasions. Paper likely adhered to backing board. Not examined out of frame.
