American School oil on canvas seated 3/4 length portrait painting of a female sitter, identified as Julia Blow, attired in a black dress with white lace detailed and a multicolored shall, against a dark background. Signed illegibly lower right. Sitter attribution on label en verso. Housed in an ornate giltwood frame with arched opening. Sight: 35" H x 28 1/2" W. Framed: 43 3/4" x 38 1/2" W. Late 19th Century.
PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation to benefit the acquisitions fund.
CONDITION: Painting has been lined. Scattered inpainting to face, garment, and background. Large area of overpainting in lower right corner, and scattered overall overpainting visible under UV light inspection. Some scattered gilt loss to frame and loss to shell decoration on upper right and left-hand corners.
