1st item: Small oil on panel genre scene depicting two young women conversing beside a dog-drawn peddler’s cart filled with brass milk pitchers. They stand before a highly detailed brick house with flowerpots in the windowsills. Initialled “HG” lower right. Mottled giltwood molded frame with old “A. Frank & Co.” label verso. Sight: 6 1/2 in. W x 4 1/2 in. H. Frame: 9 1/2 in. W x 8 in. H. 2nd item: Oil on canvas landscape depicting boats coming and going from a lake or river. At the bank sits a stone church, and mountains stand nearby. Molded giltwood frame. Sight: 19 1/2 in. W x 11 1/2 in. H. Frame: 25 in. W x 17 1/2 in. H. Both paintings Continental, late 19th to early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. W. Harwell Murrey, Middle Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: A few tiny spots of flaking/exfoliation, most notably 4 spots lower right near wagon wheel. Some oxidation and chipping to frame. 2nd item: Overall very good condition; stretcher marks. Some wear to frame.
