English coromandel wood veneer jewelry box on stand, late 19th century (last quarter). The box is fitted with a brass-inlaid monogrammed shield and crest to the lid and opens to a fitted interior featuring a mirror and storage concealed behind a ruched purple velvet panel with 13 fitted compartments. The front panel is mounted with a brass escutcheon and working lock and key, and drops to reveal two lower drawers with brass pulls, each arranged with fitted storage compartments lined in purple velvet and satin. The box is raised on a fitted Chinoiserie-style stand with corner detailing, a lower shelf, and cross stretchers, which may be associated or later added. Box: 12 in. L x 8 in. W x 9 in. D. Stand: 30 in. H x 13 in W x 10 in D. Jewelry box: last quarter 19th century. Chinoiserie stand: 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Eleanor Jacobs, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Overall, good condition. with cracks to the veneer on the lid and drop panel. Interior shows two scratches to the material around the mirror panel, where it has been pried open or scratched by contents. Some wooden dividers show glue repair, and interior purple materials show loss and signs of use inside the drawer. The stand is in overall good condition, with some loss of felt on the bottom.
