Ron Porter (Tennessee/Ohio, 20th/21st c.) oil on canvas surrealist painting, “Bag with Cow Painting,” 1997. A brown paper bag sits on the floor below a partially-visible painting of a cow. Diagonal shadows spread across the wall behind the bag, which itself casts a long shadow across the floor. Signed and dated along lower edge. Artist’s name, title, and date inscribed in pen en verso. Housed in a modern wood frame. Canvas: 12 in H x 12 in W. Frame: 13 1/2 in H x 13 5/8 in W. Biographical Note: Ron Porter earned his MFA at Ohio State University and taught in the art department at Vanderbilt University for fourteen years. He has received many awards for his work including two individual Fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council and his paintings have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions from the Huntington Museum of Art in Ohio and the Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago to the University of Shanghai in China. His work is included in the collections of the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and Franklin University, among other public collections.
