John Charles Maggs (United Kingdom, 1819-1896) oil on canvas stagecoach chase scene depicting a coach with horses in full gallop and individual riders in pursuit in left background. Stonehenge is visible in the distance at upper right. Signed and dated lower left and housed in a molded 19th-century gilt wood frame. Sight: 9 1/2" H x 34" W. Framed: 14 1/2" H x 41" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Minor craqueleure to dust around coach and to pink sky at right. 3/8" area of retouching to lower edge, below Stonehenge, plus possible 1/2" retouch to the rightmost megalith of Stonehenge.
