57 pieces assorted silver flatware, most sterling. Coin silver includes 1 coin silver sugar shell stamped for retailer H.P. Horton of Savannah (c. 1850), plus a 5 3/4" fork and matching 6 3/4" knife with retailer stamp of Day & Maussenet of Macon GA (1854-1860) and maker''s mark for Theodore Evans of NJ, all monogrammed Lockett or F. Lockett. Sterling items include 3 pc youth knife, fork and spoon set retailed by Wing & Solomon of Macon, GA (c. 1870), all monogrammed "Fannie"; boxed set of 6 Whiting Lily of the Valley dinner forks with retailer marks for C.H. Solomon, Macon, GA plus 6 knives in an unknown (possibly silverplated) pattern with mask handles (no maker or retailer marks); 8 Whiting Lily of the Valley pattern teaspoons; 1 hollow handle cake knife marked W.A. Sterling; 1 Gorham hollow handle button hook; S. Kirk & Son Inc. Repousse pattern 2 pc small carving knife and fork set; Lunt hollow handle butter spreader; 1 Whiting large serving fork; 1 Towle Old Colonial pattern citrus spoon; 1 pr Gorham sugar tongs; 1 candle snuffer; and 2 sterling salt spoons. Also included are 19 assorted souvenir spoons (including four having enameled decoration), most European, some unmarked, others marked Sterling or .800. Weighable sterling in this lot: 23.42 troy ounces. Coin silver: 3.06 troy ounces. Continental Silver (.800 or better): 2.01 troy ounces.
PROVENANCE: Most of the items in this lot are by descent from James William Lockett (and/or members of his family). Lockett (1848-1943) married Pauline Acklen, daughter of Adelicia Acklen of Belmont Mansion in Nashville. Lockett''s family home in Macon, Georgia, is now known as the Cowles-Woodruff House (a historic house owned by Mercer University).
CONDITION: 1 salt spoon with bent handle, otherwise all pieces good condition with minor wear. Most pieces monogrammed. Box with some wear and grime.
