Charles “Charlie” Ward (Louisiana, d. 2009) acrylic on canvas portrait of a Jazz pianist set against a background of broad blue, yellow and brown brushstrokes. Signed “Ward” lower right. Narrow wood box frame. Canvas: 20 in x 16 in. Frame: 20 1/2 in x 16 1/2 in. Note: Artist Charlie Ward specialized in paintings of jazz musicians. He was best known for depicting members of the New Orleans jazz scene, although in 1989, he was also commissioned to create the poster for the Monterey Jazz Festival in California.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Dr. James and Susan O’Neill.
