1st item: Large watercolor on silk painting depicting a gray cat crouching beneath a flowering tree, watching two butterflies overhead, in a landscape with blossoming flowers Chinese inscription with two red seals upper right border. Mounted to cream colored silk backing. Ribbon handle affixed to top spindle. Old narrow label en verso at upper edge with Chinese inscription in black ink. Sight: 71 1/4" H x 18 1/2" W. Overall: 91 3/4" H x 21 7/8" W. 2nd item: Watercolor on silk painting depicting a warrior on horseback in red armor with birds in flight in the sky. Chinese inscription and red seal lower right corner. Mounted to brocade backing. Thread handle affixed to top spindle. Label with numbering on lower spindle. Sight: 40 1/4" H x 16 3/4" W. Overall: 70 3/4" H x 24 3/4" W. Late 19th/Early 20 century.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Both pieces with overall creasing, slight discoloration, some wear to edges, slight scattered separation of fabric layers, and water spots, en versos. 1st item with losses to silk border at top left corner. 2nd item with some scattered losses to material at edges.
