Pair of Meiji Period Japanese bronze bottle form floor vases with archaistic form handles to the neck, each with raised animal or demon masks below the flaring rim, with mythological animals, including phoenixes and dragons, interspersed with clouds to the neck, upper shoulder, and body, all on a diaper patterned ground and terminating in a footed base. Unmarked. 23 1/2" H x 9" dia. Late 19th/early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Margaret Harold Roberts, Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
CONDITION: Both items in overall very good condition with minor areas of oxidation. One vase is missing one handle and has been drilled to the underside of base, likely for use as a lamp. Vase with four handles is missing underside of base, loose at join above upper shoulder.
