Four (4) Asian lacquered wooden boxes. 1st-2nd items: Two (2) Chinese boxes, including one (1) miniature chest, scalloped lozenge form, with hasp latch, figurative landscape vignette bordered by cloud motifs to hinged lid, and bands of figurative landscape scenes to sides (2 1/4" H x 3 5/8" W x 3" D); and one (1) small box with hinged lid, push lock, and figurative landscape throughout (5 7/8" H x 9 1/4" W x 6 7/8" D). Both unmarked. 19th century. 3rd-4th items: Two (2) Japanese bento style boxes, including one (1) Yamamoto Kansai (Japan, 1944-2020) square form with rounded edges having two birds among flowering branches to lid, comprised of two layers with red lacquered interior, lower layer having four removable red-lacquered subdividers, signed "Kansai" in red lower right, sticker label "Designed by Yamamoto Kansai" to underside (4 1/4" H x 9 3/4" W x 9 3/4" D); and one (1) rectangular form with raised fan form to lid and foliate design throughout, with inner shallow compartment lifting to gilt-dusted interior, unmarked (5 1/4" H x 9 3/8" W x 7 1/2" D). 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Williamson County, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: 1st-2nd item: Both in overall good condition with scattered minor wear to lacquer including slight scratches and craquelure to undersides; hinge on lozenge box slightly loose. 3rd-4th items: Both items in overall very good condition with minor scattered wear to lacquer; unmarked box with minor splitting to wood, largest area measuring 1 3/4" L.
