Katherine Conover (Michigan/California, 1876-1970) oil on canvas expressionist painting featuring a variety of forms suggestive of a still life, rendered in vivid colors. Signed lower right. Broad, bronze-painted wood frame. Sight: 36 1/2 in. H x 29 in. W. Frame: 43 in. H x 35 1/2 in. W. Note: Katherine Conover studied with Hans Hofmann in New York, with Bourdelle in Paris, and at the Detroit Fine Arts Academy, Columbia Teachers College, and the New York School of Fine & Applied Art. After serving for many years as head of the art department at Wayne University in Detroit, she moved to Laguna Beach, CA about 1939. She was a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association; San Diego Artist Guild; and the Dana Point Art Guild. Source: Edan Hughes: Artists in California 1786-1940.
