George Ayers Cress (American/Tennessee, 1921-2008) works on paper, including eight (8) sketchbooks containing a total of thirty-five (35) drawings, and eight (8) looseleaf works. One sketchbook with only one sketch affixed to front cover; another with one page of notes. One sketchbook with drawings of Venice and Milan, dated 1960. All drawings rendered in charcoal and ink, depicting an assortment of landscapes and figures. This lot also includes five (5) miscellaneous items including printed holiday greeting cards and a hand written/notated list of drawings by Cress. Some sketches notated. All sketches with museum accession numbers in pencil en verso. All pieces ranging in size from 6" x 4" W to 11" H x 8 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Property of the Hunter Museum of American Art.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with light wear to covers, some detached. Light toning, foxing to some pieces. Scattered minor creases or tears to some edges.
