Seven (7) George Ayers Cress (American/Tennessee, 1921-2008) works on paper and paperboard including pastel and watercolor paintings. One (1) watercolor depicting a roadside landscape near Casablanca, French Morocco, dated Dec. 11, 1943; two (2) pieces after Van Gogh, including matted pastel on paper "Boats on A River" and watercolor on paperboard "Cypresses," both titled and signed lower margins; one (1) matted watercolor painting of bridge and boats, signed and dated 1956 lower right; one (1) Manfredonia, Italy cityscape with title, signature and 1944 date to lower margin; one (1) watercolor beach scene with figure, illegible pencil notation to lower right; one (1) modernist sketch of buildings with hills in the background, dated 1958 lower right. Each with museum accession number in pencil en verso. Two pieces matted. All unframed. Overall dimensions range from 6 7/8" H x 10 3/8" W to 20" H x 24 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Property of the Hunter Museum of American Art.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Mafredonia, Casablanca works with tape residue en verso. Manfredonia with two small tape repairs en verso, largest 1 1/2" L. Cypress watercolor with scattered foxing, light soiling mainly along margins and tape residue en verso. Beach scene with scattered minor tears to edges, longest 1 1/2" L. Light soiling to mats. Most pieces with even toning.
