Dutch mahogany and fruitwood marquetry tantalus inlaid with floral decoration to front and sides and Phoenix with vase decoration to lid, ebonized and satinwood surround. The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted paper-lined interior with compartments containing six hand-painted glass decanters, each 7 1/4" H, topped with carved stoppers and one small goblet, 3 3/4" H, all with gilt decoration. Case with two brass side handles and brass shield-shaped escutcheon. Retains tag from previous sale at Brunk Auctions, Asheville, NC. 8 7/8" H x 11 1/2" W x 7 7/8" D. Second quarter of 19th Century
CONDITION: Box in overall very good condition with some general use wear, light cracking, and repairs to inlay and veneer. Lined interior with some water damage causing discoloration. All decanters and goblets with wear and loss to gilt decoration, one decanter with filled chip to corner. Age crack to rosewood platform base.
