Chinese export silver tea caddy in a quatrefoil form with lid, decorated with repousse scenes of figures, dogs, and birds in landscape settings on of the four sides of the body and repousse foliate designs on the shoulder and lid. Unidentified maker's marks in Chinese characters on underside. Tests sterling. 5" H x 3 1/2" W x 3 1/8" D. Weight: 8.730 troy ounces. Qing Dynasty, Late 19th/ early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.

Team Race; Winners 1st Bedes & Herts Regt.; Pte. H.D. Cox." Marked "HC" (for Hung Chong of Canton) with a Chinese Character. Turned wooden base. Overall: 5" H, 5 1/4" W. 2nd item: Chinese silver sauce ladle with repousse bowl and bamboo style handle. Marked "TC" (for Tuck Chang) with Chinese characters, c. 1900. 9 7/8" L. 2.9 oz troy. 3rd item: Hand wrought silver bowl with chased scrolling band. Chinese silver sycee or ingot, 50 tael boat form with four stamps to the top reading "Dong Hai Guan (Province), Min Guo Yue Nian, Lu Hsieh Zong (silversmith) and Yi". 2 1/2" H x 4 3/8" W x 2 1/2" D. Circa 1912-1933, Republic of China era. 58.89 troy ounces.

Sight: 24″ W x 18 1/4″ H. Framed: 28″ W x 23″ H.

CONDITION: Relined, with craquelure and discoloration throughout, some abrasions causing varnish and paint loss to surface, largest 3″. Some very light scattered inpainting throughout, see blacklight photos for reference. Frame is heavily worn with losses to paint, gilt, and carving and has been repaired. Painting is loose in frame. Southeast Asian gilt bronze Buddha or Bodhisattva, possibly Ming period, the subject depicted seated upon a dragon or foo dog with sash tied at his waist, a necklace with tassels, and an elaborate crown with lotus and foliate surround, resting upon a green polychrome base. Later ebonized wooden stand included. 9 1/2" H x 6" W x 3 1/2" D. 17th century or earlier. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.

Asian gilt bronze Gautama Buddha seated in dhyanasana position wearing a crown with his right hand raised and left hand in his lap, elongated earlobes, and adorned with a full-length robe, necklace, Ushnisha, and five-pointed crown with lotus or foliate blossoms at his sides. Traces of gilt and pigment visible to the back of robe. Contemporary black wood stand included. 10 1/2" H x 7 1/8" W x 5 3/8" D. 17th century. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the Early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.

Qing Dynasty archaic style bronze tripod ding censer. Circular body with twin stirrup-shaped handles and figural bird decoration, resting on a tripodal base, each tall leg with bands of incised decoration. Fitted with a carved and pierced hardwood cover having a fungus finial, and a carved circular tripod hardwood base. Retains original tag with remnants of red wax seal. 16 1/2" H (with cover and without stand). Chinese, 19th century.

Chinese archaic style bronze lamp in the form of a recumbent ram. Hinged top to the back that opens for use as an oil vessel with a spout to one end used to empty leftover fuel back into the body. Underside with incised character marks. Fitted with a conforming carved and pierced hardwood stand with incised marks to the top. Included are the remnants of a Chinese export wax seal. Ram measures 3 1/4" H x 6 1/2" W x 3" D. Qing Dynasty, 19th century.

Gilt lacquer chinoiserie sewing box, filled with needlework implements. Rectangular case with canted corners, the lid and base decorated with gilt vignettes of figures engaged in various activities and Asian landscapes, amid scrolling foliate decoration. Raised on gilt and enameled winged dragon feet. Hinged lid opens to reveal various sewing implements in a removable fitted interior, including two lift top compartments decorated with Chinese figures in landscapes. Implements include thimble, thread holders, and bobbins, many with intricate carving, together with other various sewing tools. Box also contains a lower drawer fitted with a central decorated lift top compartment flanked by dividers. Two brass side handles. 6 1/4" H x 14 3/4" W x 10 3/8" D. Chinese, 19th century.

Pair of Chinese Famille Rose ovoid porcelain snuff bottles with polychrome decoration to the bodies depicting birds and flowers, with mask handles to the sides. Both fitted with green hardstone stoppers and carved hardwood stands. 2 1/2" H (w/ out stands). Late 19th/Early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.

Three (3) Chinese semi-precious and hardstone trees, having flowers and leaves comprised of Amethyst, Calcite, Nephrite Jade, and various Quartz varieties. All in footed rectangular form jardinieres, including one (1) cloisonne enamel decorated with flowers and a fret band and two (2) marble. All jardinieres with handwritten labels denoting origin and 1890s date attribution to underside of bases. Ranging in size from 17 1/2" H x 15" W x 12" D to 20 1/2" H x 16 1/4" W x 10 1/4" D. Late 19th/early 20th century.

Paper scroll insert with Asian characters in red ink included. 9 3/4" H x 6 3/8" W x 3 1/2" D. 19th century. Provenance: Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the Early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.

Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. The central scene is surrounded by stylized bands depicting cranes flying through a cloudy sky, top, a processional scene of bulls and a row of pink flowers, below, all surrounded by decorative scrolling foliate border. Chinese table screen comprised of a rectangular hardstone plaque with applied flowering urn decoration. Decoration comprised of various hardstones including malachite, agate, tiger's eye, chalcedony, fire agate, rose quartz, moss agate, rock crystal, and coral, all on a rectangular green flourite base. Fitted with a carved and pierced footed hardwood stand. Plaque: 13" H x 10 1/8" W. Overall: 18 1/2" H x 11 3/8" W. Early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.

Red Chinese character seal with traces of a red wax seal to underside of base. 2 3/8" H x 9 3/8" W. 4th-5th items: Two (2) Japanese near matching hexagonal form vases depicting an exterior garden scene of flowering branches and a pond with turtles and birds, with foliate bands to neck and above the base. Blue Japanese character marks to underside of bases. 6" H x 4" W. All items late 19th/early 20th century.

1st item: Bronze quatrefoil form suiban, the sides having a wave patterned ground with applied seashells to the body and foliate handles to each end. Base with diaper patterned ground and three character seal mark. 4" H x 16 1/4" W x 11" D. Early 20th century. 2nd item: Bronze rectangular form suiban, the sides and base having a diaper patterned ground, one side with raised phoenix decoration, the other with raised dragon decoration, and archaistic form handles, all raised on bamboo form feet. The base with additional fret pattern border and nine character seal mark. 4 1/2" H x 17 1/2" W x 10" D. Likely Meiji period.

1st-2nd items: Pair of Chinese carved black and red cinnabar vases, each with flowering branch decoration to the bodies and blue enameled interiors. 10" H x approx. 4 3/4" dia. 20th century. 3rd item: Japanese Tetsubin iron teapot with bronze lid having a flower bud finial. Seal mark below the spout. 6" H x approx. 5 3/4" dia. 19th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
