Rare and exceptional Wythe County, Virginia side table with an elaborate carved skirt, dovetailed hidden drawer, hand planed bottom of drawer, on turned Sheraton feet. Original surface. Walnut primary, poplar secondary wood. This table relates to a group of similar tables from Wythe Co. and appears to be from the earliest period. Overall excellent condition, no repairs or losses, old split in top, does not extend entire width. Provenance – found in an African American home in Rural Retreat. 28″ width x 19 1/2″ depth x 28 5/8″ height. Circa 1830-1840. Hearn estate.
