Louis Edward Jones (Tennessee, 1878-1958), "A Burst of Sunlight in the Smokies," impressionistic oil on canvas board landscape painting depicting a road leading into the Great Smoky Mountains, with a grove of trees in early autumn foliage in the foreground, and cloudy gray sky overhead. Signed and dated "L. E. Jones 1953" lower left. Titled, signed, and dated, en verso of board. Housed in a wooden frame with gilt trim. Sight: 9 5/8" H x 11 5/8" W. Framed: 13 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W. Note: Jones was an Impressionist painter from Woodstock, New York and established the Cliff Dwellers studio in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Private Washington, DC area collection. Consignor's great uncle purchased directly from the artist. Condition: Overall good condition with a couple of minute paint touch ups (visible under UV light), less than 1/16" diameter in the upper middle part of painting.
