1st item: Southern School, mid 19th century watercolor and charcoal or chalk portrait of a man holding a fiddle or violin. Note attached en verso states the portrait was purchased "when they sold the belongings of the old farm and homestead in Murfreesboro TN." Antique, possibly original, giltwood molded frame. Sight – 7 1/2"H x 6 1/2"W. Frame – 9 3/4"H x 9"W. 2nd item: Oval folk art pencil on paper drawing depicting President Andrew Jackson, adhered to a mat with decorative border, under glass in an oval molded wood frame. Inscribed "Jackson" lower right. Mid to late 19th century. Sheet: 3 1/2"H x 2 1/2"W. Frame: 7"H x 6"W.
CONDITION: 1st item: Toning; 1/4" spot of dampstaining upper right quadrant, a few other smaller and lighter spots of discoloration (minor); small chip to interior side of glass left edge. Wear to gilding. 2nd item: Drawing appears adhered to mat. Crease across subject's collar, light toning. Neither work examined out of frame.
