89 pieces Gorham sterling silver flatware in the Hindostanee pattern, (patented 1878), plus 7 other assorted sterling flatware items. The rare Hindostanee service for 8 includes 8 knives (9 1/4 in. L); 8 dinner forks (7 1/4 in. L); 8 salad/dessert forks; 8 place/dessert spoons; 16 teaspoons; 8 iced tea spoons; 8 citrus/fruit spoons; 8 flat handled butter spreaders; and 8 cocktail forks; plus 6 table/serving spoons; 1 carving knife; 1 carving fork and 1 large serving fork. The 7 other pieces in assorted patterns by various makers (some not marked with maker’s name) include 1 Gorham flat handle butter spreader; 3 Durgin flat handle butter spreaders; 1 cheese or jelly server with filled handle; 1 bar knife with filled handle; and 1 bottle opener with filled handle. Combined weighable sterling: 90.86 oz troy.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Dr. Lewis Pendleton Armistead, Nashville, from the estate of his great aunt, Reba Armistead of Norfolk, Virginia.
CONDITION: Very good condition. Hindostanee pieces monogrammed to back of handles, HKA. Most of the other pieces with assorted monograms.
