1st item: American Chippendale mahogany side chair with yoke-shaped top rail having a central carved shell, ears molded in an upturned scroll pattern; pierced vasiform splat and inset slip seat with needlepoint seat upholstery, over plain straight legs with a concave stretcher. Incised bracket shaped returns and central demilune incised drop at skirt. Seat to floor: 18 1/2" H. Overall: 37" H x 20" W x 17" D. Circa 1770. 2nd item: American Federal or Hepplewhite mahogany shield back side chair topped by an arched rail with convex molding, splat with carved urn, shaped seat upholstered over rails with nailhead trim above plain straight legs and stretcher. Seat to floor: 17 1/2" H. Overall: 36 1/2" H x 20 3/4" W x 17 1/4" D. Circa 1790.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Federal mahogany chair with 6 1/2" old repairs/replacements to both rear legs. Chairs are structurally stable.
