Sirio Tofanari (Italy, 1886-1969) bronze sculpture depicting an elephant with a raised trunk and slightly raised right front foot. Signed on one edge of the plinth base TOFANARI. 20" H x 20" L x 6 1/4" D. Artist Biography: (Adapted from AskArt) Tofanari is recognized as the lead sculptor of the Animalier movement in Italy. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and left to travel to Paris and then on to London where he spent time studying animals at London Zoo and the Natural History Museum. In 1937, Tofanari moved to Milan, where he stayed until his death.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Some areas of oxidation noted to backside of right rear leg, around each foot and to the base top and base underside.
