Pair George III Chinese Chippendale mahogany side chairs or backstools, each with an upholstered yoke shaped crest rail and fully upholstered back, seat and skirt; fret-carved openwork brackets at the knees, and Marlborough legs with rosette carved blocks and relief-carved fret work, atop molded feet. Yellow damask upholstery secured with decorative nailheads. Upholsterer's label to underside. 36"H x 20"W x 25"D. English, circa 1755. Provenance: the estate of Lucille Svitzer Brady, formerly of Annapolis, Maryland. Condition: Old, possibly original dark surface. Several repaired breaks to fretted brackets and some chew/abrasions to feet and feet moldings. Upholstery is relatively new and in good condition. Chair #1 – missing left side bracket. Missing foot molding at rear of left front foot; foot molding possibly replaced on the back of a rear leg. Chair #2- Right side bracket reglued. Half of left side bracket possibly replaced.
