Thomas Pollack Anshutz (Kentucky/Pennsylvania, 1851-1912) double-sided pencil and watercolor painting, depicting a seated man who reads in an interior en recto (possibly a self-portrait), and two figures in a sailboat before a colorful landscape en verso, 1895. Recto signed and dated lower left and verso signed lower right. Housed under plexiglass in a distressed giltwood frame with cream fabric mat, gilt fillet, and nameplate. Sight: 14″ H x 10″ W. Framed: 21″ H x 17″ W.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, TN collection.
CONDITION: Both sides in overall very good condition, with colors slightly attenuated and even toning to verso image. Frame with minor abrasions and gilt loss.
