After Emile Coriolan Hippolyte Guillemin (France, 1841-1907) spelter bust sculpture of Dante attired in a hood and crown of laurels. Inscribed "Dante" on base and signed "E.le Guillemin" on the underside of the left shoulder. Housed in a giltwood box with glass panes, bead course decoration, lion's paw feet, and a sliding wood door with logo en verso "Made in Italy". Bronze: 10 1/2" H x 7" W. European, likely French. Box: 13 3/4" H x 9 1/4" W 7 7/8" D. Italian. Both items Late 19th/Early20th C,
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall oxidation, white oxidation on left side of the laurel crown, and three cracks to the reverse side of the pedestal and to one to reverse side garment. Box with repaired feet, some minor gilt loss and cracking, and warping to glass. one small break to left glass pane.
