Andre Vignoles (French, 1920-2017) rectangular oil on canvas painting titled "L'Etang Aux Chenes en Automne," (The Pond at Chenes in Autumn). Depicts a large house or other building situated behind a grove of trees, their autumn foliage reflected in a pond in the foreground. Signed "A. Vignoles" lower right. Several inscriptions and marks en verso: top left stretcher "EKTA Catalogue"; stamp on canvas top left left "Couleurs Toiles Extra Fine Lucien LeFebvre…"; Center top stretcher "C77225"; top right stretcher "WF Paris"; right top canvas "L'Etang Aux Chenes en Automne Andre Vignole". Gilt metal placard with artist's name, affixed lower center of frame. Housed in a carved gilt wood frame with linen and gilt rabbet edge. Sight – 50 1/2" H x 63" W. Framed – 58 1/2" H x 71" W. Biography: Andre Vignoles, who died earlier this year, studied painting in Paris during the 1940s. He frequently submitted his works to the Salon d'Automne, where he was a member of the Council. He also exhibited works in Paris in the 1950s at the Salon au Jeunes Peintres. CONDITION: Painting in overall excellent condition. Some gold accretions along top edge of frame (possibly tiny drops of wall paint). Black light reveals no alterations or inpainting.
