Ludvig Jacobsen (Denmark, 1890-1957) oil on canvas painting, titled "Torvedag i Solier Malorca" ("Market Day in Solier Malorca"), depicting a bustling market scene. At the center, three men inspect a hog while the driver leans against the cab lighting a cigarette and another young boy looks on. A pair of men conversing as well as a mother carrying a baby and followed by a young girl are in the foreground while a donkey at a trough, a produce stall with vendors and customers, and additional figures occupy the background. Signed in red "Ludvig Jacobsen" lower right. Inscription with title, paper label with artist's name, and additional numbering labels, en verso. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 32 7/8" H x 42 3/4" W. Framed: 40 1/8" H x 49 7/8" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with light surface grime. Frame with scattered minute losses, largest measuring 1/2" x 1/4".
