Hand-pieced and hand-quilted small crib quilt in the Evening Star pattern, rendered with all cotton fabric in green, yellow, red small-scale printed fabrics and solid white, and white quilting thread. Inner and outer borders are double green printed cotton fabric. By-the-piece quilting in star blocks and parallel lines in the borders. One loom width (43") solid off-white mill manufactured backing, hand-bound front to back on all four sides with four mitered corners, and medium-weight cotton batting. 43 1/2" H x 42" W. American, Circa 1860.
PROVENANCE: Private West Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Fraying to binding on all four sides, fading to red and yellow fabrics. Discoloration to green border fabrics, and brown print fabric loss in red star blocks. Condition overall commensurate with age. No indication that this crib quilt was cut from a larger quilt.
