Danish School, late 19th or early 20th century impressionistic oil on canvas painting depicting a man seated on a bench, painting pieces of china or pottery on a table in an interior setting. Signed with an illegible monogram, lower right. Inscribed “NIELS” en verso of canvas. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 34″ H x 35″ W. Framed: 38 3/4″ H x 40″ W. Late 19th/early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with craquelure, minute areas of paint flakes, loss, to shoulder of subject’s left sleeve. Bucking to top left of canvas. Frame with two protruding screws from addition of hanging wire visible top left and right, areas of loss, largest 2 1/4″.
