English school oil on canvas pastoral landscape painting depicting a flock of sheep grazing in a field bathed in golden light, bordered by sporadic groupings of trees to the left and a low, straw-roofed building to the right. A shaded stream and low lying foliage fill the foreground with a larger field and distant tree line in the background beneath a cloud-filled blue sky. Signed "L Richards" lower right. Partially legible stamp "…London", en verso. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with scrolling foliate designs, scallop center ornaments, and flourish corners having placard titled, "A River Scene", and attributed artist's dates affixed to lower center sight edge. Sight: 15 1/2" H x 23 1/2" W. Framed: 22 7/8" H x 31" W. 19th century.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with minor abraision to paint surface at both upper corners, largest measuring 1/2" x 3/4".
