American, possibly Mid-Atlantic, hand-pieced and appliqued quilt, in an original Eight-Pointed Star design with central floral motif. Made from various cotton printed fabrics including "Turkey Red", early blue, pink, yellow, and blue plaid, dark green with black print, and Rainbow prints. Hand-quilted with foliate and cross-hatching by-the-piece. Lightweight cotton batting and separate binding, and a distinctive red with white leaf print backing. 84" H x 79" W. Circa 1845.
PROVENANCE: Private West Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition for age. Some light loss to brown printed fabrics and unwoven area off central medallion applique, a few minute scattered holes, and light staining on top, especially along fold lines and backing.
