Exhibited John Shirley Fox (United Kingdom, 1860-1939) oil on board pastoral landscape painting depicting highland sheep and lambs atop a heather-covered moor overlooking a calm body of water to the left with steep, cloud-covered hills in the background beneath an overcast, blue sky. Signed in red "John Fox" lower right. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with foliate flourish corners and swags upon diapered ground having placard with possible title, artist's name, and exhibition at Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin date of 1880 affixed to lower sight edge. Sight: 19 1/2" H x 29 1/2" W. Framed: 28 5/8" H x 38 5/8" W. Note: John Shirley Fox exhibited around 50 paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy which was founded in 1823.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with minute exfoliation to paint layer in the sky, particularly at the upper right corner.
